In the beginning was... Agde! Tourists are familiar with Cap d'Agde, a seaside town famous for its port, beaches and, in particular, its naturist district, one of the biggest in Europe. The municipality of Agde itself has a much older history, dating back to the 4th century BC. It was long nicknamed the "Black Pearl of the Mediterranean" because of its monuments made from basalt stone. Today, Agde has some thirty campsites and the population rises from 25,000 to 200,000 during the summer, making it the second biggest town in Languedoc-Roussillon.
