Visit the abbey Notre-Dame d'Aiguebelle during your camping holiday
Occupied since its foundation by a community of monks living in prayer, manual labour and silence, Notre-Dame d'Aiguebelle Abbey is one of the oldest Cistercian abbeys in France. Characteristic of the 12th century, its architecture, remarkably preserved, is transitional: between Romanesque (thick walls, semi-circular arches) and Gothic (ribbed vaults, slightly broken arches). A community of thirty Trappist monks live there today, making a living from the craft of making tonic drinks and therapeutic ointments. A few rooms welcome travellers wishing to recharge their batteries in this peaceful place.
Visitors can walk the paths around the monastery, discover the church, the Tibhirine Memorial, a replica of the Grotto of Lourdes and the monastery shop, where there is an exhibition room and a video room showing a film about the life of the community.
