In search of the nuggets of Saint-Suliac

Saint-Suliac is home to one of Brittany's oldest churches. This 13th-century church is a listed historic monument with a massive bell tower and decorated porch. There is also a unique stained glass window that tells the story of the village of Saint-Suliac, as do most of the elements that adorn the interior of the church.

The Vierge de Grainfolet is an oratory built by sailors in 1894 when the Virgin Mary made a promise to them as they set off to fish in Newfoundland. Situated high above the sea, the walk to the oratory is a pleasant one and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Rance.

Also a listed historic monument, the Dent de Gargantua is a menhir made up of a 5-metre-high block of white quartz in the shape of an obelisk, which has given life to a beautiful legend that only the Bretons know the secret of. La Dent de Gargantua is one of Saint-Suliac's must-sees.

Climbing Mont Garrot is an interesting hike for lovers of nature and wide open spaces. At the top, you can see a small vineyard, whose wine is not allowed to be sold, but the inhabitants of Saint-Suliac are said to have tasted it in the past. After an invigorating 2-hour walk, this is the reward! A superb panorama of the Rance valley. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mont-Saint-Michel. A not-to-be-missed visit for anyone who enjoys hiking in the great outdoors.

Where to picnic in Saint-Suliac?

If the weather is fine, don't hesitate to go for a walk and stop for a picnic in Saint-Suliac. There are a few places where you can do just that, including the Notre Dame de Grainfolet oratory, where you can enjoy your sandwich in front of the magnificent scenery overlooking the River Rance. You can also picnic around the church and in the parish enclosure. The main thing is to leave the place as clean as you found it, of course.
