Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, the Mont-Saint-Michel of the land

Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is a medieval town set in the green hills of the Comminges region and a stop-off point on the route to Santiago de Compostela. The village is perched high above the Garonne valley, earning it the nickname of the "Mont Saint-Michel of the land". Renowned for its Sainte-Marie cathedral, its sumptuous Romanesque-Gothic architecture, Renaissance stained-glass windows and 16th-century organs deserve special attention, as does its cloister, the highlight of the show. The architecture of the rest of the village is exceptional, with a citadel and ramparts housing half-timbered houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.
