The nuggets of Finistère
Quimper is the cultural capital of Brittany and has been awarded the title of City of Art and History. Don't miss the Saint-Corentin cathedral, one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in Brittany. Its two spires and its stained glass windows are particularly worth seeing. Very marked by the medieval period, it is impossible to miss the pretty little footbridges that span the Steïr and the Odet, the two rivers that cross the town. The half-timbered facades and the Locmaria district with its medieval garden labelled as a Remarkable Garden, or the Dukes of Brittany district with its corbelled houses, cobbled streets and the Saint-Mathieu church, make Quimper a truly romantic city.
Classified as a Grand Site National, the Pointe du Raz is one of the two must-see natural sites in Finistère along with the Crozon peninsula. The Crozon peninsula, whose seabed is protected by the Armorique Regional Nature Park, is a real breath of fresh air. On your way, the panorama of the Pointe de Penhir, the Espagnols and Dinan will offer you breathtaking views!
A very pleasant city, you can swim in Brest on the beaches of the harbour, stroll around the marina and even opt for a walk on the water or a cruise to the islands of Ouessant and Molène. Second military port in France and protected by its harbour, its city centre had to be rebuilt after the war. Its medieval castle, which now houses the Marine Museum, and the Iroise Bridge, built in 1994, are worth a visit. Plant lovers will be attracted by the National Botanical Conservatory, one of the largest in Europe. Children and their parents will appreciate Océanopolis, a museographic space dedicated to the sea.
15 kilometers from Quimper, the splendid little town of Locronan is approved as a "Petite Cité de Caractère", labeled "Plus Beau Village de France" and classified as a historical monument, no less! It is pleasant to stroll around to admire the richness of its architecture, to stop at the glass factory run by a master glassblower, an expert in glassblowing techniques, the fountain of Saint-Eutrope and the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle No doubt you won't forget to stop for a pancake.
