Campsites
For lovers of nature and the great outdoors, Landes is the ideal place for camping. On the shores of Lake Biscarrosse, the Resort La Rive***** campsite offers a complete range of mobile homes and chalets. Everything here is designed for your comfort and a five-star holiday experience. The Le Vieux Port***** campsite has all mod cons and is located in Messanges, benefiting from direct access to the beach and organised activities as soon as it opens. You can enjoy a Wellness area, mini-club and horse-riding centre. Going further south, in Labenne, the La Mer**** campsite is located 700 metres from the beach and has a large number of cycle paths as well as a surf school. Lastly, the Sen Yan***** campsite in Mézos offers quality services, activities and entertainment, all close to the beaches of Landes.
By the ocean
Ideal for walks and bike rides, the pine forest covers three quarters of the municipality of Messanges, which also benefits from 5 kilometres of beaches and two lakes. The perfect combo for family holidays and very representative of Landes.
Seignosse, with its beaches stretching as far as the eye can see, is one of the most nature-friendly towns in Landes. The fact that there has been no construction on the sea front is a credit to the town, as is the vast pine forest that conceals the housing.
The town of Hossegor, the Landes coast's most chic resort, is named after its marine lake. All visitors fall under the spell of this European surfing town, which caters to various interests, such as golf, or architecture with its Basco-Landais style villas. It also has a party vibe, with its summer entertainment and surfing competitions.
A seaside resort and marina at the same time, Capbreton stands out for its harbour, the only one in the department. It is also famous for its long wooden pontoon (the pier) offering stunning views. A summer atmosphere reigns here, enhanced by the eight sandy beaches in the municipality.
Labenne is the quintessential seaside resort. People come for its magnificent beach, seaside restaurants and view of the Pyrenees. They return for its bike rides, water park, zoo, adventure trail and skate park, as well as its playgrounds and superb nature reserve, the Marais d'Orx, which is home to over 250 bird species.
Lit et Mixe is a small village that's well worth a visit for lovers of outdoor holidays. Most of the countryside around it is completely unspoilt. A stunning landscape, pine forests next to immense, deserted beaches, but also small campsites, cycle paths and footpaths.
By the lakes
Near Arcachon Bay, Lake Sanguinet straddles Landes and Gironde. It is ideal for bathing with its many sandy beaches and water sports. Sanguinet is the ideal place for calm and restful holidays, with its imposing forest spaces offering great hikes and cycle rides.
Lake Biscarrosse, like Lake Sanguinet, is one of the great Landes lakes on the Aquitaine coast. You can enjoy supervised bathing in the summer, pedalos and a picnic area near the lake. What's more, the town is nestled between the two lakes and is only thirty kilometres or so from the Dune of Pilat.
Less than 10 kilometres from Biscarrosse, the town of Parentis also enjoys access to the lake with an ideal location on its south shore. There has been renewed interest in the town since an oil field was discovered there. It still produces oil today. Fishing fans can catch zander, carp and pike there.
Lake Mimizan is more secluded than the above lakes, but still covers 340 hectares! You can practise all the water sports you like there. There too, the beaches are equally suitable for sunbathing. Walkers can stroll along the many themed paths, but there is also a treetop adventure course and many cycle paths in the immense forest available to visitors.
