Discover the Whale lighthouse during your camping holiday
The Baleines lighthouse is one of the great lighthouses that have been present along the French coast for several centuries, guiding ships and shaping the landscape of our coastline. The lighthouse on the Ile de Ré was built in 1854 and is 80 metres high. Still in operation, its light can be seen up to fifty kilometres (27 nautical miles) away.
The top of the lighthouse is reached by a spiral staircase of two hundred and fifty-seven steps. The lighthouse gallery offers a beautiful view of the ocean, the island of Ré and the island of Oléron. All the buildings of the lighthouse have been classified as historical monuments since 2012.
Located near the old tower, you can also visit the Lighthouse Museum, which tells the story of lighthouses and how they work.

Opening hours: October to March: 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. April to June: 10 am to 7 pm. July to August: 9:30 am to 9 pm. September: 10:00 am to 6:30 pm.
Prices 2022: Grand Phare: Adult 4.10 €, children 7/12 years: 2.70 €. Free for children under 7 years old.
Museum + Old Tower: adult: 10 €, children 7/12 years: 5,20 €.
Grand Phare + Museum + Old Tower: adult: 12,20 €, children 7/12 years: 7,20 €.
