Discover the Pula dune during your camping holiday
Standing one hundred and seven metres high, fifty metres wide and five kilometres long, this is the highest dune in Europe. It varies in size all the time. The dune is made up of fine sand, and is pushed inland by the sea winds. It is a real natural monument in movement. From its summit, you can take in an impressive panorama with an exceptional view over the coast and the ocean, the channels of the Arcachon basin, the Landes forest and sometimes even the Pyrenees. You reach the top by stairs, or, if you are feeling energetic, by climbing directly up the gentlest sand slope, on the forest side. The Dune of Pyla is also a famous starting point for fans of paragliding and hang-gliding. Hikes and walks with a guide are also available. Similarly, there is an educational nature trail, a non-guided walk along the edge of the forest, between the car park and the base of the dune, and the permanent exhibition “the hidden face of the dune", retracing its development and history.
