If poorly maintained, an awning can quickly deteriorate and spoil your holiday in bad weather. Camping France gives you advice on how to maintain your awning effectively.

You have chosen to equip your caravan with an awning. Here are the maintenance rules to follow:

1. Ventilate the awning well and dust it regularly.

2. Do not use scouring or corrosive products that will stain or attack the canvas.

3. No window cleaner on the windows, just use a wet sponge with a little hand soap.

4. For all PVC covers, however, you can use washing-up liquid or professional cleaning products, in progressive doses. Use a soft brush, for example to clean droppings.

5. For pine resin or other drips, it is more complicated. The experienced user will choose an awning with a smooth PVC roof. Otherwise, you will have to wait for it to dry and try to scrape it off gently until it is gone or no longer sticks.

6. If there is a small leak in the seams, you can repair it with slightly softened candle, while waiting to apply a waterproofing product or even a seam sealer.

7. For rotting canvas, cleaning with a sponge is perfect. If it does not have eyelets, avoid perforating it with sardines. It is better to press it down with round pebbles or small sandbags.

8. Careful storage ensures the longevity of the awning. Once cleaned and dusted, the perfectly dried awning should not be folded over in the same way over and over again, as this can lead to creasing.

9. If possible, roll up the fragile bay crystal or at least put it on top of the pile - flat - so that it is not crushed by the weight of the rest.

10. Store the tubes separately, so as not to stain the fabric.
