At the beginning of 2022, the FNHPA (Fédération Nationale de l'Hôtellerie de Plein-air) launched the Trophées du développement durable (Sustainable Development Awards) to reward the initiatives of campsite managers in this area.
The 3rd edition of the Awards continued the principle of honouring five winners in as many categories: Social, Economic, Environmental, a Super Trophy combining the three components of sustainable development, and a Coup de Coeur Trophy.
The 2024 Sustainable Development Awards were presented on Wednesday 6 November at the Sett exhibition in Montpellier.
The winners of the 2024 sustainable development awards
SOCIAL TROPHY
L'Eau Mère*** campsite in Sauxillanges (Puy-de-Dôme).
The Social Trophy was awarded to the L'Eau Mère campsite for its partnership with Caranov, a local association which enables young people who have dropped out of school to benefit from a joint project involving the renovation of caravans rented at the campsite. This manual and collective work is designed to give these young people back their confidence in their abilities and to facilitate their social and professional integration.
ECONOMIC AWARD
Camping Le Garlaban*** in Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône).
The Economic Trophy was awarded to Le Garlaban campsite for its renewal of the European Ecolabel and the installation of sensors and connected meters for fluid management (O-Cell) and shower water recovery systems (Ozonéo).
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD
Beauregard *** campsite in Marseillan (Hérault).
Beauregard campsite has been awarded the "Environmental" Trophy for a triple initiative:
- Optimisation of selective waste sorting processes, with compression of household waste and composting.
- Providing campers with bio-bins for composting and bags for packaging.
- installation of a filtered and purified water fountain.
SUPER TROPHY
Camping du Mettey**** in Vagney (Vosges).
The Super Trophée 2024 brings together the three components of sustainable development and was awarded to the Mettey campsite for its threefold initiative:
- Unusual rental properties created using short production runs
- Creating a shared permaculture garden
- Creation of a Walipini, an underground greenhouse that uses thermal and solar energy to keep crops at a constant temperature.
TROPHY - Jury's Favourite :
The 2024 Jury's "Coup de Coeur" was awarded to the Via Natura chain of campsites (comprising 15 campsites), for the introduction of a continuous improvement approach at all the campsites in the chain, aimed at creating a campsite that respects people and the environment. Via Natura has also introduced a set of guidelines to help campsites put the chain's values into practice.
