Camping: all the questions to ask when booking

To avoid disappointment, make sure you are informed at the time of booking. All you need to know to choose your rental.

The latest text published by the public services "on consumer information on the characteristics of rental accommodation in open-air hotels" aims to better inform holidaymakers so that they do not have any unpleasant surprises when they rent camping accommodation.

This new decree, dated 22 October 2008, reminds us that the campsite owner must inform the tenant of the description of the rented premises, its location in the locality and the rental conditions. These are common-sense clarifications that are worth highlighting. From now on, campsite owners must, for example, indicate precisely the equipment offered (dishwasher, television, microwave oven, etc.), the age of the rented accommodation, the interior layout of the mobile home or provide a list of additional services not included in the rental price (cleaning, accessories for children, etc.).

"This text sets out in writing the information that campsite owners must give to their customers," explains Fabienne Pionneau, director general of the French Camping and Caravanning Federation (FFCC). "But it is true that for the last two or three years we have received fewer complaints about campsite rentals. And for good reason: customers no longer hesitate to ask questions about the condition of their future holiday rental. Don't hesitate!

Don't forget to ask:

- The size of the site

- If there is a terrace and it is covered

- If there is a garden room

- The age of the mobile home

- If there is a coffee maker, oven, freezer, air conditioning

- If a tent can be placed on the site
