If you want to discover the village of Najac, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to campsite accommodation. And that's just as well, because choosing a campsite is already a bit of a holiday, a stage that already smells of sun, relaxation and barbecues to the sound of cicadas, especially in Aveyron and the Midi-Pyrénées. But as the holidays have already started (a little) for you, we've decided to make things a little easier by offering you a selection of campsites that are sure to please, depending on your criteria of course, which can vary from the water space to the size of the pitches, or the sometimes-indispensable table tennis table, for example.

Le Paisserou *** campsite is in Najac in the Midi-Pyrénées region and promises you won't be bored. A leisure centre, river and forest are just 100 metres away. Open from March to November and during the Christmas holidays for rentals, it has 80 pitches including 40 rentals such as bungalows, chalets and converted tents. Kayaking, paddle boarding and rafting are available on the river and in the Aveyron gorges. There's a mini club for children and entertainment and table tennis for parents.

La Prade *** campsite is in Montirat, less than 11 km from the village of Najac. In a natural park in the Midi-Pyrénées region, on the banks of the Viaur river and with direct access to the beach. A holiday to suit everyone, those who want to relax on the beach and those who want to enrich their culture and curiosity by discovering the riches of Najac. Open from May to September, the campsite has an outdoor pool area and 70 pitches, including 22 bungalows, mobile homes, and tents.) For sports enthusiasts, there is a horse riding, kayaking and BMX facilities, as well as volleyball, table tennis and pétanque. Campervans have access to a craft terminal inside the campsite.

Le Rouergue *** campsite is in Villefranche-de-Rouergue in the Midi-Pyrénées region, 21 km from the village of Najac and close to the Aveyron gorges. Open between May and September, it is one of 35 Onlycamp campsites in France, offering simple, human-scale establishments at prices that are never exorbitant. Here, you're just a stone's throw from the bastide town, with large, shady pitches, fully equipped rental accommodation and access to the aquatic area of the adjoining municipal swimming pool.

Explore the treasures of Najac

Sharing the prestigious "Grands Sites Midi-Pyrénées" label with the town of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, some twenty kilometres away, it's a real pleasure to wander along this unique medieval street in the village of Najac, which stretches right up to the castle. As you stroll along, you'll discover old houses with lauze roofs, fountains, the Porte de La Pique and breathtaking panoramic views from its fortress, all in a calm, authentic, green atmosphere thanks to its location surrounded by forests.

The Royal Fortress of Najac, perched atop the rock to watch over the village, was built in the 12th and 13th centuries to defend Rouergue. A must-see monument in the village of Najac, the castle is also a true example of military defence, having played an effective role in the Hundred Years' War and in the battles against the Cathars. From the top of the keep, a majestic view of the village awaits you.

Built in the 13th and 14th centuries and listed as a historic monument, Saint-Jean church is an imposing religious building with two chapels and a single nave with a flat apse. The 14th-century hexagonal bell tower is set off to one side. Inside, the superb stained glass windows are sure to delight.

Listed as a historic monument for 45 years, the Maison du Sénéchal was built in the 14th century as the home of the Sénéchal. Like a small castle, the house features a massive tower, the oldest part of the house, and a staircase leading to three superimposed rooms. Outside is a charming courtyard. As the house is private, it cannot be visited from the inside, but it can be admired from the outside. For the more curious, guest rooms are available to rent.

A 13th-century historic monument located at the bottom of the village of Najac, the Saint-Blaise bridge was restored in the early 15th century and straddles the Aveyron river. Once you're over it, you can't fail to admire the heights of the village, the river and the surrounding countryside.

Hiking is one of Najac's flagship sporting activities. Its green surroundings, with forests, hills, rivers and the Aveyron gorges, naturally attract sports enthusiasts who are keen to discover the lush green landscapes around them. The area around Najac is a gold mine of routes for walking or even hiking, depending on your wishes and abilities.
